International Airport Status for Madurai

The Airports Authorities of India was giving 'lame excuses' to not notify Madurai Airport as an international airport, despite it having all facilities for landing A-320 aircraft, T Kannan, Chairman of SPEED (Southern Prosperity Through enhanced Economic Development), 2008.

Talking to PTI along with R Dinesh, Chairman of CII and Joint Managing Director of T V Sundaram Iyengar and sons ltd said, he said airports having similar infrastructure like Tiruchirapalli and Coimbatore had been declared International airports long ago.
